Do your teens have the math blues?
OR do they just need help with one or two little concepts that are challenging for them?
My daughter and I recently found something that helps her learn Precalculus.
Here’s what it is.
Our Secret
One day, I found my daughter struggling to understand composition and decomposition in Precalc. Now I’m one of those weird people who like math. But I hadn’t looked at a precalc book since I was a teen. So I needed to find something to refresh my memory and help her learn.
After doing a little research on Google (my favorite search engine), I hit the jackpot. I found a site with a potpourri of free videos that explained composition and decomposition in many different ways.
It was…guess what…Youtube.
Youtube has some amazing videos made by teachers, professors, and students that explain many math concepts. It has become our secret source for math help.
How to Search
What is the best way to search on YouTube for math help?
I would search under the subject, i.e. Geometry or Algebra II, and the concept, i.e. composition, quadratic equation, etc. Be sure to include the subject so that you don’t get videos on gardening if you are searching for a topic like decomposition. LOL.
I would also watch at least part of the video first to be sure that it is good quality and kid friendly.
You might want to have your teen watch more than one video on the same topic. Sometimes one person will explain a point better than another.
Since discovering Youtubes videos, we have also found other helpful sites.
