“On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…a Christmas book to read to my kids.”
Do you like to share Christmas books with your little angels this time of year?
We enjoy looking at Christmas books too. Over the next few weeks, I am going to share some of my favorite Christmas books. They are books that my children and I have enjoyed for years. Some are secular, but they still teach valuable lessons. Most are about Jesus since He is the reason for the season.
I have a few favorites that are unfortunately no longer in print. You may be able to find them used. They won’t be part of the 12 Days of Christmas book posts that I’ll be doing, but I will share them with you now. Here they are.

Here are a few of my favorite old books.
Christmas Stories Round the World by Lois S. Johnson
If you want a glimpse of how Christmas has been celebrated around the world, you might want to look at this book. It shares stories of twelve children from twelve different countries including Iceland, Japan, Ireland, Sweden, Mexico, and colonial America. Each story reveals some of the Christmas traditions of the past in each of these twelve interesting places.
I loved reading this book as a child. I really enjoyed being immersed in the cultures of other countries and finding out how they celebrated Christmas. If your kids enjoy learning about other countries, they may like this book too.
A Child’s Story of the Nativity by Louise Raymond. Illustrated by Masha
This version of the Christmas story is one of my absolute favorites from childhood. It truly gives glory to God through both the text and the illustrations. Here’s a quote as an example.
“And it is for us to worship, too, and to be grateful, not only for our Lord’s birthday, but on every day in the year, for that long-ago night when He was sent to earth to be King…”
The illustrations by Masha are absolutely breathtaking. They are drawn with intricate detail and filled in with pastel colors and shiny gold highlights. I could spend hours looking at them.
