Since this is the last day of my 12 days of Christmas books, I thought it would be fitting to conclude with a book about that well-known Christmas carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas. There have been several picture books created for this counting song which made it a little difficult to choose. However, I finally settled on a very cleverly illustrated one. My choice for the 12th day of Christmas book is The Twelve Days of Christmas by Jan Brett.

I love Jan Brett’s books. She puts such clever creativity into her illustrations. Often you will find a side story or some other little treat in the panels of her books. In The Twelve Days of Christmas, you see a cute love story unfold in side panels. You’ll also find a different pair of animals for each day. Then there are Christmas ornaments in the top panels that tie into the gift of the day.
Your kids can embark on a cultural journey to eleven different countries as they enjoy the book. Each day revolves around one country and includes “Merry Christmas” in the language of that land. The characters in the illustrations are often dressed to match the culture. On the 11th day of Christmas, for example, you’ll find Flamenco dancers and the words Feliz Navidad.
There are more surprises than I have mentioned in the this 12th day of Christmas book. Click below to get a copy.
Many blessings,
