Planning on homeschooling for the first time?
Wondering where you should start?
If you think you should begin by researching homeschool methods, STOP!
Don’t do it!
You’ll be overwhelmed and confused.
There’s something more important that you as beginning homeschoolers should do first that will help you out with the method part of homeschooling.
That something you should do is…
OBSERVE YOUR CHILDREN.
You need to learn how they learn before you start shopping for curriculum or you’ll waste a ton of time and money.
You need to begin by:
- watching how they play,
- noticing how they take in information and directions,
- observing how they interact with their environment,
- finding out what their passions and talents are,
- and talking to them about anything and everything.
You see, through your observations you can find out their individual learning styles.
You can determine if they are
- auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners,
- right-brained, left-brained, or whole-brained,
- more comfortable learning in a structured or flexible environment.
Once you find out these things, you’ll discover that when you do your research, the right homeschool methods will pop out at you.
Then you can begin shopping for curriculum.
And once you actually start homeschooling, continue to observe. It will help you tweak your curriculum and find ways to improve your child’s learning experience.
