We got hit with a bug last week, and it wasn’t a mosquito.
It was the kind of bug that gives you the coughs and sniffles. 🙁
Actually, on some days, we didn’t have sniffles, we had major head congestion. Yuck!
But I have a natural cure for congestion that also perks me up! It’s called Spicy Coffee and I love it even when I’m not sick.
I’ll share the recipe with you today so that you can use it when you get congested. By the way, this recipe can be modified when it comes to how hot it is. I know that heat tolerance can vary depending on your regional circumstances. What is considered “hot” in Minnesota is the equivalent of “mild” in Texas (speaking from experience). And what is “hot” in Texas will light your mouth AND house on fire! But it’s wonderful!
But that’s enough about regional differences. Let’s get to the recipe.
Spicy Coffee
- a cup of your favorite brewed coffee
- 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. ginger
- a dash or two of cayenne pepper (or more depending on your tolerance level and degree of congestion)
- Sugar and/or creamer, if desired
Brew the coffee. Add the spices while it’s piping hot and drink up! It’ll clear your head in a matter of minutes!
Oh, and by the way, you can substitute the cinnamon and ginger with 1/4 tsp. Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Pie Spice. No pumpkins were injured in the making of this spice. It’s just lots of tasty baking spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and a few others.
I hope this Spicy Coffee recipe clears your sinuses and warms your tummy. Feel free to share it with any of your friends and relatives who are down and out.
