If the solar system is in your lesson plans, I have a collection of planet mnemonics you can share with your kids.
These mnemonics can be used to teach the names of the planets in order from the Sun, in order by size, and by type (terrestrial and gas giant).
Let’s take a look at them.
Planet Mnemonics
The eight planets in order from the Sun are:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
Two phrases that can help your kids memorize that are:
My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos
My Very Easy Method Just Set Up Nothing
On the other hand, the planets in order by size from largest to smallest are:
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury
And this phrase will help your children memorize that order:
Just Sit Up Now Each Monday Morning
Want your kids to remember which planets are terrestrial and which are gas giants? These two memory tricks can help.
The terrestrial planets are:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars
A phrase for learning them is:
My Visitor Eats Mice
The gas giants are:
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
which can be remembered with this sentence:
John Smith Upsets Neighbors
Do you know anyone else who could use these planet mnemonics? Feel free to share this post with them.
