Do your kids know their dromedary from their Bactrian camels in the animal kingdom?
Can they tell the difference between an African and Indian elephant?
I have a few mnemonics for you today that will help them learn those differences.
Do you have a teen who is learning entomology?
I have something that will help him out too.
Here they are.
Animal Kingdom Mnemonics
Camels
Do your kids struggle to keep dromedary and Bactrian camels straight?
Here’s a memory trick that will help them out.
Dromedary starts with the letter ‘D‘ which has one hump just like the dromedary camel.
Bactrian starts with the letter ‘B‘ which has two humps just like the Bactrian camel.
Elephants
There are two little rhymes that will help your children know the difference between an African elephant and an Indian elephant. Here they are:
India’s big, but Africa’s bigger,
The same as their elephants. Easy to figure!
And…
India’s big, and its elephant there features,
But Africa’s bigger, with much bigger creatures.
Bees and Wasps
Do you have a teen who is learning the Latin family classifications of bees and wasps? Tell him to remember this:
A-B
V-W
Apoidae are bees.
Vespidae are wasps.
By the way, this same mnemonic can be used to remember the treatment for stings by these insects.
Use ammonia for a bee sting,
and vinegar for a wasp sting.
