Who am I?
My name is Susan. I have two beautiful daughters. We live in rural Minnesota. I am Catholic. I love homeschooling, reading, writing, music, and learning.
I have a B.A. in Elementary Education and minors in Music and Spanish. I also have over 20 years of experience teaching in the public schools. I started out by working as a regular teacher for about 9 years, then quit to sub so that I could homeschool my daughters.
So why did I, a licensed teacher, begin homeschooling her kids in the 90’s? Maybe because I’m a bit of a rebel. Also, I started noticing back then the fundamental problems with our public school system. I came to see that schools were like factories manufacturing our kids’ education. Problems with discipline, drugs, and alcohol were on the rise. Kids in public schools thought it more important to socialize with friends than to learn. Motivation to work and to learn were in the basement. I didn’t want my kids in that environment.
I started investigating the homeschooling world. Here I found a wonderful opportunity to educate my children optimally. I could let them learn at a pace that is right for them and help them explore their unique talents and learning styles. I could also teach them about God in school without getting fired.
Over the years, we have used a variety of homeschooling methods including Classical, traditional, Montessori, Charlotte Mason, and online learning. I guess eclectic is pretty much my style. I am fascinated by all of the different approaches to teaching that exist in the homeschool world.
This site, HomeschoolWithLove, was born out of a desire to help homeschoolers with their struggles. I felt called to share all of my knowledge with homeschoolers to make their job easier. I also like making learning fun, because when learning is fun, it sticks better in the mind.
I hope you find this site helpful on your homeschooling journey. Please come visit me on my Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages. I would love to hear from you.
